Keyboard Kickstart

For ages 3-6, this is a great introductory class in preparation for individual piano lessons and can be taken multiple times. Starting at such a young age can be challenging as students are just learning the physical and mental focus, concentration, and cooperation required for instrumental study. While most students age 7+ are capable of sitting for 30 min., ages 3-6 require a constant practice companion to build skills for this activity. Even if you don’t plan to continue with a Suzuki teacher, the Kickstart class is a great opportunity to gauge your child’s readiness for music lessons and your ability to commit time to helping your child learn how to practice.

In this class, we will listen and move to music, be introduced to the piano and music theory concepts. An adult practice partner is required as this is direct preparation for individual piano lessons with a Suzuki approach. Class will be divided into mini individual lessons and group games. This will give you an opportunity not only to have one-on-one time with the teacher, but to observe other parents and children, too. Observation is a highly valuable part of learning.

A piano is not required, but is recommended for successful participation. Listening to the Kickstart playlist is also highly recommended for participation. If you want to see if your child is truly interested, i.e. before you invest in a good instrument, this is the opportunity! Music lessons are a financial investment as well as a time investment for both parent and child. The three things required to provide a musical environment for success: listening to the playlist, repetition of activities at home, and lots of encouragement.

Remember that starting at this early age can be great for kids, but the commitment to music lessons belongs entirely to the parent. If you’re not ready for the commitment, I recommend waiting until age 7 or 8 to begin music lessons.

Class length is varied by class size, 3-5 students, typically 45-60 min. twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The first fall session will run six weeks, from August 26 - October 2. The second session will start October 7 - November 18. Each session must have a minimum of 3 students. Tuition is $300. As a group class, there are no make-ups for missed classes. Refer a friend and receive $20 off tuition for both you and your friend!

Classes are held at Charlotte's Piano Studio, a home studio located in Round Rock, 78681.
